WHAT IS PILATES ?
Pilate is a method of exercices developed by Joseph H. Pilates at the beginning of the XXth century. The Pilates method is a physical movement program designed to stretch, strenghen, and balance the body. Pilates exercices focus on abdominal strength, spine pelvis and shoulder stabilization, muscular flexibility, breath control, postural symmetry, joint mobility and strengthening through the complete range of motion of all joints. Instead of isolating muscle groups, the hole body is trained, integrating the upper and lower extremities with the trunk.
The principles are :
- concentration
- centering
- control
- precision
- flowing movement
- breathing
With systematic practice of specific exercices coupled with focused breathing patterns, pilates is an important adjunct to professional sports training and physical rehabilitation of all kinds.
Some results of the Pilates method are a gain of strengh, more flexibility and coordination. The Pilates method can be used a complete sport or as a complement to another sport. From the sedentary to the top athlete everybody can benefit from training with the Pilates exercices. In the Pilates Method you will find more than 500 exercicescombining breath with movement, they can be executed on the mat or with specialized equipment.
